Owen Corey Postmortem

Howdy, I'm Owen Corey. I was one of the programmers for this project.

I spent around 8 hours putting together the Spot-The-Difference minigame, followed by another 12 hours creating the Interactable Interface  and implementing it into the game, resulting in about 20 hours of work time.

The hardest part of the project for me was programming with blueprints. I come from Unity and C# and this is my first real project working with Unreal's Blueprints. So, while I do have programming experience, a lot of my time was spent trying to figure out how to implement stuff into blueprints that I had done before in C#. This was particularly problematic when it came to the Interactable Interface, as I was learning the syntax for blueprints in real time. Even though I've used interfaces and the like before, not knowing what I was looking for in the environment of visual scripting really made it take a lot longer than it should've.

If I were to do anything different, I would certainly have asked for more help as it would have saved a lot of time putting stuff together, leaving more time to work on other features.  I think the biggest hurdle to asking for help honestly was the fact that I already knew what I was trying to accomplish, but didn't know how to find it and didn't want to seem like I didn't know what I was doing. It's hard to recognize the difference between just not knowing and just needing more time to work through it, and both can be dealt with by asking for help.

The thing I was most proud of with this project was definitely the Interactable interface. It ended up being very versatile and I can easily see myself adding it, or at least a mostly unedited variant of it, into other projects. I think I also did a good job with the Spot-The-Difference minigame, however, we were unable to actually create images with slight differences so the clickable area just shows up when hovering over it for the sake of proof that it actually functions.
